March 2nd

Around 6am, Dr. Carter decided to induce due to my blood pressure so they started Pitocin.  My cramps, which actually were contractions, were back pretty regularly.  There were some I had to grunt through, they were getting really long and tough.  By 7, the anesthesiologist came in and started my epidural.  It was a little rough, a little uncomfortable – very similar to getting an IV put in but just in such a strange location (lower back).  I was so happy he got it in and it started working before the next contraction hit.  My right side was instantly numb – I can’t move that leg, but my left side is not as numb and I’m feeling a little bit of the pain on that side.  Not bad, but definitely not comfortable.

It’s 11:15 now and I’m dilated to a 5-6 and fully effaced.  They roll me from side to side to try to keep the epi evenly distributed.  I have a doozy of a headache.  I wish I could eat some crackers.  Been napping a little from time to time but I’m really tired.  My tummy really itches, they say it’s the epi.

Thank you so much everyone for your well wishes and prayers! I was so lucky to be able to have her vaginally. It was a close call, we almost ended up with a c-section. I’m so proud of myself for finding the energy and strength to have her myself! 🙂 I appreciated every note of excitement and encouragement you all sent! I know you were all cheering for me!
