From Pity Party to IUI Party

Ok, Pity Party is over!  Actually, it was over yesterday but the weekend went really fast and I didn’t get a chance to post!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Sunday we drove to Gatesville and spend the day and night with my folks and my nephews.  My brother Chris and his wife JoAnn are packing up their house so my folks had Chris’s boys.

We had so much fun!  We swam and slept and ate.  Does it get any better than that? 🙂

He had a blast exploring the flower beds!  I went to take a pic, and he did a perfect innocent puppy pose.  Don’t believe it – he’s not innocent at all!

Troy hooked up the folks’ computers and got them on the net, and I taught them how to use their DVR.  I’m sure they forgot as soon as we left.  (you think I’m kidding but seriously, I’m not).  All the grandbabies – furry and not – decided they wanted to sit on Mom to watch Spiderman 2.  🙂

We had leave at 9 Monday morning so Troy could be at work at 11, and I had another appointment at the fertility clinic at 11:30.  The timing worked out perfectly!  We had just enough time to drop off the dogs at the house before going our separate ways.

After my appointment I gassed up the car for the work week, went home and cleaned house and did laundry.  Just as I finished, Troy got to come home early and we did more floatin’ in the pool and nappin.’  What a life, eh? 

The rescue kitties were happy to see us.  They purred and rubbed on us, then meowed for soft food!  I gave them a bowl of soft and a bowl of dry cat food – and they couldn’t decide which they liked better. 🙂

I love changing the decor as the seasons change.  Even though it’s still in the 90’s everyday, it’s time to break out the harvest decorations!  I pulled out a comforter for our bedroom that I bought after the season last year.  Troy doesn’t care for it, he says it’s too shiny and noisy (it rustles when he moves.  Wouldn’t be a problem if he didn’t flop around so much in his sleep, right?), but I love it!  I came in to find all our Abyssinians lined up in a row on the bed – they blended right in!  Camoflouge!

We started to watch Apoloosa but fell asleep.  At dinner we got half way through I Love You, Man, but then my Mom got to the house.  She had dropped off the boys and their mother’s in Austin.  She is staying with us for the rest of the week to help my brother and JoAnn finish cleaning the old house and get moved into the new.  I just love it when she stays with us, I’m really looking forward to this week with her.  Dad will be with us off and on, but he has to work in Gatesville so most of the time he’ll just come down for the day when he can.  We all crashed out early last night.

So, get to the important stuff already!  Alright, alright, here goes the latest in IF news:

Sunday and Monday I saw Dr. Vaughn (it was his weekend, lucky guy).  We talked quite a bit about the risks of a multiple pregnancy and OHSS.  I asked him what he felt about our prospects, as I felt he was a little more aggressive in his treatment policies than Dr. Silverberg.  He just chuckled and told me he had suggested to Dr. Silverberg that the cycle be cancelled!  So much for that misconception.  But he was very kind about it, and said when my E2 came back he would give the info to Dr. Silverberg and they’d discuss it one more time before they made a decision one way or the other.

On holidays all of the b/w clinics (CPL labs) are closed, so they sent me to St. David’s Hospital to have my blood drawn (after the appointment with Dr. Vaughn).  I was on the highway on my way to the hospital when Dr. Silverberg called me from the airport – he was in boarding lounge waiting to fly to LA to give a speech.  He said he felt we could go ahead with the IUI’s, only if we realized and accepted the risks of OHSS and were willing to use selective reduction if there were more than 3 babies.  Otherwise, he’d rather cancel the cycle.

What I didn’t know was that I’m more likely to get OHSS if I do get pregnant.  If I don’t get pregnant, everything is absorbed.  I wonder why pregnancy  triggers the OHSS?

So, we’re on!  At 7:15 last night I took my Ovidrel shot.  Today at 11am Dr. Hansaard did our first IUI.   Poor Troy, every during every single IUI cycle we’ve had so far, my mother has been staying with us when he has to, um, contribute!  That’s how I knew we’d get the go-ahead with the IUI’s;  since Mom decided to stay with us for the week, it was inevitable!

Tomorrow is the second IUI at 2:45pm, and Dr. Silverberg will be back to do that one.  Then it’s the most anticipated and emotional 2WW ever in IUI history!  (just kidding, I watch waaay too much of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.  You know, “this week, the most dramatic and emotional rose ceremony EVER in Bachelorette history!  Ok, putting my geek side back in the closet…).

So now we start a lot of praying, that He will not only send us a baby, but that He won’t send us more than 3!  I hope we don’t have to face the selective reduction decision.  I asked Dr. Hansaard a little about it today, and she said that they do a test on the placenta at about 10 weeks that tells if there are chromosomal abnormalities.  If we do have to reduce, at least we’ll have that to guide our decision.

This is what I had on Monday:

Lining:  8.5A

Left Ovary:  20, 18, 17, 4-16’s and 6 other smaller follicles

Right Ovary:  19, 18, 17, 16 and 3 other small follicles

They cancelled the E2 (I didn’t have to go to the hospital after all).  Dr. Silverberg said it didn’t matter since we were going to go ahead with the IUI.  But on Sunday the E2 was 2800.

I need to remember to put my lucky stuffed sperm in my purse to go with me tomorrow to IUI #2.
